Whole sardines in organic extra virgin olive oil with just a little salt. The flesh is soft and mild, with the gentle richness of a classic Portuguese tin, and the oil is fruity enough to use on its own.
A Maria Organic classic: fresh sardines caught in season, cooked first and then canned the traditional Portuguese way. The olive oil is certified organic, and the tin comes in a recyclable carton.
Serve them on toasted sourdough with smashed avocado and a poached egg, or lay them over a chickpea, cucumber and herb salad and use the oil as the dressing.
